what was your response to gabrielle giffords' plea for an additional gun curbs? >> she said something needs to be done, and i think we agree with that. it is not that there is a great number of these things that have happened, but if there are measures that need to be taken to deal with the sort of mass shootings that took place in newtown and gun crime, the steps should be taken. it was like the senator from connecticut at the statement from sandy hook, where everybody could agree with the statement, but the statement was very much like what former congressman giffords said, and that was that something ought to be done. those of us who sat there during that hearing and those who testified, we may disagree on what would be effective, what can be done within the context of the rights of innocent americans, but we all agree on the goal, and that is really what policy discussions should be about. they should be about how you solve a problem. people can disagree on what conditions work and do not work, but there is not a lot of disagreement with the fact the problems
